Flannel back is oh so soft and warm! Since it is utilitarian, as well as beautiful, machine wash warm, tumble dry. The process of rag quilting includes washing and drying twice. It will get softer over time and lose threads regularly. This is part of the process.
Made with love - kids are attached for years to quilts I make. I can't explain this, but I've been told often about this wonderful phenomena.
There are 14 different jacquard fabrics on the front. The center (unseen) fabric is a homespun, which is a loose weave, prone to fraying. Fraying is what makes this quilt a rag quilt. The back fabric is cute cats and kitties flannel. All cotton fabrics.
